Alloy Medium Carbon Steel and Carburizing Steel

Alloy Medium Carbon Steel and Carburizing Steel

Low-Alloy Medium Carbon Steel

It is known for its strength, ductility, and hardens ability, which makes it suitable for a wide range of applications. The following are some of the most common grades of low-alloy medium-carbon steels that Leong Jin has in stock.

  • AISI4140 or DIN42CrMo4 is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel with fatigue resistance strength. It is widely used in the aerospace industry. This type of steel is in Leong Jin's stock, including the oil and gas industry, for components such as shafts, gears, conveyor parts, and bolts. We offer both pre-hardened at 28-36HRc hardness and non-hardened type, also known as SCM440 or 42CrMo grade.
  • AISI4340 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy steel known for its ductility and strength. This type of steel in Leong Jin's stock we offer pre-hardening at a hardness of 28-36HRc because the hardening allows this group of steels to be smoothed more smoothly than the same unhardened steels.

steels are versatile and can be found in large industrial machines.

Carburizing Steel

It is a group of steels that undergo a heat treatment process called carburization, which increases the amount of carbon on the surface before being introduced into the normal hardening process, thus increasing its hardness and wear resistance while maintaining a strong internal core structure. Here are some common carburizing steel grades.

  • AISI8620 Carbon steel with low nickel, chromium and molybdenum alloy It is widely used for parts that require carburizing and require stronger, tougher cores such as gears, pivot pins, and crankshafts.
  • DIN1.5919 (15CrNi6) carbon steel alloy chromium and nickel is used for parts that require a strong core and wear-resistant surface, such as cutting tools, stamping, etc. It is also wood working, cup forming and pressing tools, cold roll and measuring tools.
  • DIN1.6587 (18CrNiMo7-6) is a carbon steel alloy of chromium, nickel and molybdenum. This steel is used for heavy-duty parts with high friction and heavy loads. Cam parts, clutch pieces Bolts for compressors, fan rods Heavy gear, pump rod, chain sprocket

All three grades were chosen for this type of work due to their ability to make the surface high hardness through carburizing while maintaining a strong and tough interior. This makes it ideal for heavy-wear parts that require very high fatigue resistance.
